ST. LOUIS — An employee was killed and another was injured in a fight between the co-workers Tuesday morning at a Wendy's restaurant in north ¹û½´ÊÓƵ.
Police said the fight broke out about 7:20 a.m. inside the Wendy's at Natural Bridge Avenue and Union Boulevard, but spilled onto the parking lot.
One worker stabbed the other with a knife. The worker who was stabbed grabbed a gun and shot the man who stabbed him, said Capt. Matthew Karnowski of the ¹û½´ÊÓƵ Police Department.
The stabbing victim, 28, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The man who was shot, 52, died on the parking lot. His name was not released.
Karnowski said video surveillance captured some of the attack. He said investigators found a gun, a knife and ballistic evidence.
Karnowski said there is no danger to the public and the incident was confined to those two workers.Â
Authorities didn't say if the employee with the gun had carried it with him onto the parking lot or grabbed it from someplace else after being stabbed.
Homicide detectives are handling the investigation.
The restaurant at 3465 Union Boulevard is in the city's Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood. Three of the 76 homicides in ¹û½´ÊÓƵ this year have been in that neighborhood, according to police statistics as of Monday night.
Benjamin Hayes, 43, of Wentzville, and his 16-year-old son Max died.Â
